Welcome to the chair of Natural Hazards and Structural Resilience!
Hello, I am Anastasia (aka Natasha) ATHANASIOU, Assistant Professor in Structural Engineering at BUW, since July 2023.
Few facts about me:
- My tenure track is supported by a 120,000 € grant, offered by the Carl-Zeiss foundation.
- My duties include teaching core courses in the international Master program in Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering (NHRE) and performing high-end research in Natural Hazards and Structural Resilience.
- Before moving to Weimar, Germany, I was postdoctoral researcher at BCEE, Concordia University, Canada. My research focused on the effect of strong winds and earthquakes on multi-story steel buildings.
- My early research work was devoted full-scale testing, simulation and structural identification of hybrid base-isolation systems. I pursued my PhD in Structural Engineering at DICAR, University of Catania, Italy.
- I hold a Bachelor's and General Master's degree in Structural Engineering, and a Master in Earthquake Design of Structures, awarded from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
- The results of my research work have been published in several peer-reviewed journal papers, book chapters, conference proceedings and technical reports.
- I speak Greek (native), English (proficient), Italian (proficient), French (intermediate) and German (beginner).
- I am passionate about nonlinear dynamics, resilience, performance-based design, winds and earthquakes.
