The Chair of Steel and Hybrid Structures is having a productive year through active participation in scientific conferences.
In June, Mr. Kästner attended the 13th World Conference on Timber Engineering in Oslo, which concentrated on the future of timber engineering. Mr. Kästner presented his research paper about a promising approach of linear timber structural health monitoring. In the same month, Ms. Fritz visited the ICBBM 2023 conference in Vienna delivering a research paper on the effects of geometrical imperfections in bamboo culms, which aligned with the conference's focus on bio-based building materials.
Later in September, several members of the chair attended the Eurosteel 2023 conference in Amsterdam, where the main themes are centered on circular economy, sustainability in steel construction, and the changes in the new Eurocode. The team made valuable contributions to this conference by presenting research papers on U-profile stability (Mocoso & Kraus), plastic cross sectional analysis (Ibanez & Kraus), and a probabilistic-based structural life cycle assessment (Chowdhury, Arnold, & Kraus)
In November, the research about statistical evaluation of geometric variations of italian phyllostachys edulis bamboo will be presented by Ms. Fritz at the International Conference on Non-Conventional Materials and Technologies in Brazil.
