24th Workshop "City & Traffic" in Krakow, Poland
From 07th until 13th July 2019 the Chair of Traffic System Planning participated again in the international workshop "City & Traffic", which took place this year at its 24th edition in Krakow (Poland).
Each year the workshop deals with special traffic problems of the host city. In international and interdisciplinary groups with 4-5 students and a supervisor, the deficits of the respective area under investigation are identified, analyzed and various solutions are proposed. The focus is especially on non-motorized road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. At the end of the workshop, the results of the group work will be presented to all participants and representatives of the city. They should serve the decision-makers of the host city as a basis and input for finding measures for the traffic problems.
This year a total of 35 students (4 of them from Weimar) and 8 supervisors from Germany, Lithuania, Austria, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary took part. MSc Johannes Vogel took over the function as supervisor of a workshop group for the Chair of Traffic System Planning. The other participants of the Bauhaus-Universität were students of urban studies and environmental engineering, who were also very involved in their workshop groups.
A special surprise was the participation of Mr Hartmut Münch, former professor of the FH Erfurt and co-founder of the workshop.
In addition to the professional exchange, the week was of course also used to get to know each other, make contacts, visit Krakow and its sights, and take advantage of the wide range of restaurants and cafés. With the workshop, this year again a long and probably in Europe unique tradition was successfully continued. In 2019 the workshop is expected to take place in Maribor (Slovenia).
