Excursion to Copenhagen
From October 31 to November 3, 32 students and 8 staff members of the Chair of Transport System Planning went on an excursion to Copenhagen. The trip took place in the course of the lecture "International Case Studies". The programme included a guided bike tour and meetings with the Danish Railway Administration (Banedanmark) and the City of Copenhagen.
The journey on October 31 was taken by train via Göttingen and Hamburg to Copenhagen. A first transport-wise interesting point was the railway ferry between Putgarden and Roedby.
The first day in Copenhagen started with a guided bike tour organized by the planning office "Copenhagenize" on which positive as well as negative examples of bicycle infrastructure were presented and directly experienced by the participants. In the afternoon the group visited the premises of the Danish Railway Authority (Banedanmark). Klaus Studstrup Jørgensen, programme director at Ringsted-Femern-Banen project, presented the upgrade plans for the relation Hamburg - Copenhagen and Haider Al-Ali presented the ongoing electrification project.
On the second day, the group visited the premises of the City of Copenhagen and listened to a presentation on the "Co-Create 2025"-Strategy of the City of Copenhagen and the fundamentals of the planning of bicycle infrastructure. After a lunch break the Danish National Museum was visited where participants could choose between guided tours on Danish old history and on Denmark in the 20th and 21st century. Especially on the second day several special means of public transportation were used, including an automatic metro and the Harbour Bus, a ferry serving the public transport.
In total, the participants enjoyed the excursion and found it interesting and informative.
The excursion was co-funded by funds of the Bauhaus100-programme and funds of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. We thank our sponsors a lot for the financial support.
