International workshop »City & Traffic« hosted in Weimar
How can traffic in Weimar work better? Students were looking for answers to this question at the international »City & Traffic« workshop from 8 to 12 July. The approach of the workshop: Rethinking transport in Weimar. The results were presented to representatives of city politics, city administration and interested members of the public as part of »summaery2024« on Friday 12 July in the transport system planning rooms.
Participants from various disciplines, including architecture, transport planning and environmental engineering, took part in the workshop to analyse specific traffic situations in Weimar: Goetheplatz with its high volume of traffic from buses, cars, pedestrians and cyclists, Humboldtstraße with its complex intersection, August-Frölich-Platz with its confusion for crossing pedestrians and other examples. The groups were asked to analyse the existing traffic situation, point out deficits and contribute ideas for improvement. The main focus was to be on road safety and weighing up the various utilisation requirements for the street space.
About the workshop
The "City & Traffic" workshop takes place annually at one of the locations of the participating universities (Prague, Belgrade, Vienna, Krakow, Vilnius, Žilina, Maribor, Győr and Weimar). The 27th edition invited 35 students from seven of the participating countries to Weimar to work together intensively. This not only generated innovative ideas for local transport planning, but also promoted professional and personal networks for the participants' future careers. The project also strengthens European cooperation between the participating universities.
