Training for road safety auditors in Zielona Góra, Poland

On May 11 and 12, the two assistants of the Chair, Dipl.-Ing. Raimo Harder and M. Sc. Johannes Vogel, were invited to Zielona Góra in Poland to support their colleagues from Uniwersytet Zielonogórski in the training of road safety auditors and to intensify the exchange of experiences between Poland and Germany in the field of road safety work.

The safety audit is a formalized procedure for assessing the safety concerns of a road design in all steps from planning through design to traffic clearance. Safety auditors should identify possible safety deficits in the designs during the planning process of new traffic facilities, and thus contribute to preventing accidents in the future.

The University of Zielona Góra is one of three training institutes for road safety auditors in Poland. There has been intensive contact and exchange with the Chair of Traffic System Planning for many years. Among other things, in 2015 and 2017 trainings and further educations for road safety auditors were carried out together in Zielona Góra and Warsaw.

At this year's training Mr. Harder and Mr. Vogel described the German approach and experience in carrying out road safety audits and accident investigations. In addition to the lectures, small exercises were also conducted together with the training participants. These were then intensively compared and discussed.

At the end of the stay there was a meeting with the head of the Chair for Road and Bridge Construction at the University of Zielona Góra, Prof. Adam Wysokowski.
