Two presentations at traffic safety conference in Tallinn
From 04 to 05 December 2019 the annual road safety conference "Vision Zero for Sustainable Road Safety in Baltic Sea Region" took place in Tallinn (Estonia). The Chair of Traffic System Planning was represented with two presentations.
In his talk "Pro- and counter-arguments to a general speed limit on German motorways" Johannes Vogel presented an objective analysis of the current discussion regarding a speed limit on German motorways. He particularly dealt with aspects of road safety such as accident loads and accident severity.
Julius Uhlmann presented the first results of his dissertation project in his talk "Comparison of Road Traffic Deaths and Injury Rates at Pedestrian Crossings in Europe". He analysed the accident statistics of 14 European countries with regard to road traffic death and injury rates at pedestrian crossings. The countries with the highest road traffic death rates are Poland and Lithuania and those with the lowest rates are Great Britain and Germany.
Technical articles on both topics will be published in the "Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering" soon.
The conference "Vision Zero for Sustainable Road Safety in Baltic Sea Region" took place for the second time and, this year, was organised by the Technical University of Tallinn and the Estonian Road Administration.
