Engineer, Author, Role Model – Roma Agrawal to Give Lecture in Weimar on 30 May

Civil engineer Roma Agrawal became famous for her work on Western Europe’s highest skyscraper, London’s »The Shard«. Originally from India, Agrawal was born with a gift for maths and science and has, in recent years, discovered a new passion: Communications. Through TEDx talks, books and television, she is generating enthusiasm for engineering and technology. On Thursday, 30 May 2024 at 5 pm, Agrawal will be giving a lecture open to the public at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. All those interested in »How a nail built the world« are warmly invited to attend the lecture at Marienstraße 13 Lecture Hall A. The talk will be held in English.

What Programs are Offered at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, and How Do I Apply? The Open Campus Day on 1 June 2024 Provides Answers

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is hosting its annual Open Campus Day from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, 1 June 2024. Which degree programme is right for me? How can I finance my studies? What can I expect of the city of Weimar and on campus? Employees of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Studierendenwerk Thüringen will be on hand to answer these and other questions starting at 9 am in the foyer of the Mensa am Park at Marienstrasse 15. Visitors can obtain general and subject-specific information about study orientation at various information stands.

Bestehendes neu gedacht: Gespräch zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung zum »Studienpreis Konrad Wachsmann«

Die Entwicklung von Ideen für den Umbau des Gebäudebestandes sowie dessen und die Um- bzw. Nachnutzung ist eine zentrale Aufgabe künftiger Architekt*innen. Auch die Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar widmet sich – verstärkt diesem Thema in Lehre und Forschung. Hintergrund ist neben der klimapolitischen Notwendigkeit das grundhafte Umdenken im Bau- und Planungssektor, die in dem Zusammenhang geforderte Bauwende und die Etablierung einer neuen Umbaukultur.

Am 26. April 2024 sind in der Thüringer Aufbaubank in Erfurt die Gewinner*innen im Startup-Programm neudeli Fellowship ausgewählt worden. Mit der Förderinitiative unterstützt die Gründerwerkstatt neudeli der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Studierende, Mitarbeitende und Alumni, die innovative Ideen und technologische Ansätze mit wirtschaftlichem Potenzial vorantreiben möchten.

»Wasserstofftag Apolda« - Experience Future Technologies Today

Led by the Energy Systems Group at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, a sustainable hydrogen supply system has been developed in the Thuringian town of Apolda for the »Vereinsbrauerei«. On 26 April 2024, interested visitors can check out the hydrogen plants for the first time from 1 to 5 pm. A pop-up exhibition on the premises of the brewery will provide background information on electrolysis and the importance of hydrogen as an energy source. Entrance is free of charge.

»Queens of Structure«: Role Models for Women in Civil Engineering

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be focussing on the achievements of female leaders in engineering during the 2024 summer semester with an outdoor exhibition and accompanying guest lectures. 18 portraits of successful female engineers will be on display with the intention of inspiring women in particular to pursue a career in engineering. Engineer Agnes Weilandt will be giving a guest lecture at the vernissage on 25 April and examining the exciting question: »How do we want to plan and build in the future?«

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Receives Over One Million Euros to Help Integrate International Students Into the Labour Market

At nearly 30 percent, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has a higher than average proportion of international students. Some of these students stay in Thuringia and join the workforce, but this is by no mean the majority. Just one third are successful in starting a career in Germany, specifically in Thuringia. In order to increase these numbers and integrate more international graduates into the local and national job market, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be receiving over one million euros in funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) »FIT - Promoting Academic Success and Labour Market Integration of International Talents« programme.

Focus on Sustainability: Weimar Engineers Fall Back on »Plan B«

The Faculty of Civil Engineering was established 70 years ago at the University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (HAB), which is now known as the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Since then, the requirements of the construction industry have changed considerably. To address challenges such as the energy and climate crisis, the digital revolution, and the shortage of skilled labour in the engineering sector, the faculty will undergo a strategic realignment under a new name starting in April 2024. In the future, there will be a growing emphasis on sustainable and resource-efficient construction in research and education.

Does Teaching Make You Happy? The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Releases New »Zwischen Magie und Handwerk« Podcast Starting in April

The upcoming summer semester at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar marks a first at the university: On Monday 8 April, 2024, the first podcast of its kind in Germany on the topic of university teaching and learning will be launched under the title »Zwischen Magie und Handwerk« (Between Magic and Craft). The podcast features instructors at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar speaking candidly with Dr. Simon Frisch, Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs and host of the podcast, about their teaching experiences, didactic methods and their passion for teaching.

Product designers honoured by the German Design Council for their cargo scooter

Bauhaus students Esther Betz, Elisa Bessega and Sylvia Chen have been honoured for their »Mantis« cargo scooter in the »one&twenty« design competition. With this international competition, the German Design Council annually honours outstanding design students and graduates in the fields of product design and lifestyle.

Goethe’s Clothing in 3D: A Better Understanding of Historical Clothing Through Digital Images

A joint project between the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Media and the Klassik Stiftung Weimar allows scientists to digitalise historical garments. This involves using the so-called »3D-RealityCapture-ScanLab«. With the help of digital cameras, the ScanLab can produce realistic images of Goethe’s clothing. 3D models are generated in a complex process that helps us better understand Goethe’s life and personality through his clothing and makes it accessible to a wider audience.

Leipzig Book Fair 2024: What does »new reading« and »new writing« look like?

The student team from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is eagerly anticipating the opening of the Leipzig Book Fair next Thursday, 21 March 2024. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is set to make its first appearance at the book fair since 2019, showcasing an ambitious exhibition stand that has been the culmination of intensive collaboration among team members from various faculties over the past few months. In the art colleges’ exhibition area, for four days there will be a highly interactive stand entitled »Even more reading, even more writing. Neues Schreiben – neues Lesen (New writing – new reading)«.

Network meeting on resource conservation and energy efficiency

The urgency of addressing global challenges such as climate change and resource scarcity underscores the importance of rethinking approaches to materials research. Thuringia’s innovation drivers are focussing on sustainable building materials, recycling and closed-loop material cycles. The »Thuringian Materials Day« industry event on 11 March 2024 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will feature keynote speeches, poster pitches and an industry exhibition. Participation is free of charge.

Students from all over Europe: Record number of participants in Bauhaus Spring School 2024

From 14 to 23 March, 171 students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and its European partner universities will be taking part in the third Bauhaus Spring School. Participants will be able to collaborate creatively and engage in intercultural networking in eight courses relating to the topics of architecture, urbanism, art, design, media, culture, technology and the environment. The international short-term programme began in January 2024 with online courses and will now continue with a nine-day in-person phase in Weimar.
