»We are excited to welcome students from our international partner universities to our campus as part of the first Bauhaus Spring School. This format will be taking place for the first time this year at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and will continue to be held every year. We are one of the first universities to offer this European, ERASMUS-funded short programme for students«, explains Kristiina Oelsner, Bauhaus Spring School coordinator. »We see this programme as complementary to our Bauhaus Summer School, which is aimed at students from all over the world.«
The Bauhaus Spring School is a blended intensive programme, meaning that it is split into an online and an in-person phase. Some aspects of the Bauhaus Spring School began as early as October 2021, with online courses supervised by Bauhaus Spring School instructors in cooperation with instructors from 21 European partner universities. Students were able to register for one of five courses offered in architecture and urbanism, art and design, and media and culture, working together on projects with students from all over Europe. Students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar also had the chance to participate in the new programme through Bauhaus.Modules of the same name for the first time.
A second phase with 89 students travelling from 15 countries will take place in Weimar from 10 to 19 March 2022, allowing students to continue working on projects that they started together with Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students. Courses are supervised and carried out on site by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar instructors. In the process, students will have the opportunity to establish international networks, expand upon their skills and gain intercultural experience. Travel and accommodation costs, as well as course fees, are covered by the ERASMUS »Blended Intensive Programme«.
»The combination of online and in-person learning allows students to work intensively on a topic while still at home and at the same time complete a mini semester abroad«, says Oelsner. In addition to specialist courses, the participants also have access to guided tours of Weimar, various workshops, social events and excursions to Erfurt, Eisenach, Leipzig and Dessau.
