The conference organisers are bringing together cutting edge, practice-based research in art and design to discuss the latest developments and explore the different forms of community, both online and in person, and to confront present uncertainties and tensions. The search is on for forward-focused solutions to current social, cultural, environmental and economic challenges brought about by issues such as the pandemic or climate change.
The 13th edition of the international conference will take place both online and in person; a 24-hour online format with presentations and lectures is planned, which will allow discussions to take place across all time zones. A three-day meeting in Weimar will offer the opportunity for intensive sessions, exchange and workshops to take place in person.
It is no coincidence that the meeting is taking place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar; with its practice-based doctoral programme in »Art and Design«, which offers artists and designers the opportunity to earn a Ph.D., the Faculty of Art and Design plays an influential role. The programme grants students a double qualification with evenly balanced practical and academic components, a degree that is unique in Germany. The three-year study programme is completed with a Ph.D. thesis, which consists of an equal weighting of an academic and an artistic or design component.
