Samira Gebhardt explores both mental and physical living spaces in her work. In its unanimous decision, the jury above all praised the unconditionality with which Samira Gebhardt addresses her artistic focus. The jurors Anne Schwanz, Julia Schäfer and juror Daniel Marzona explained their decision as follows: »The expansive installation, which intelligently combines sculpture and moving images, raises questions in her artistic work about memory and the psychological experience of everyday spaces that perhaps shape us more than we usually realise.«
The Lyonel Art Prize aims to help further young artists. Launched by Wiegand Manufactur Weimar in 2019, the prize is aimed at fine art students. In 2021, the Lyonel e. V. association for the promotion of art and culture was founded and the award subsequently taken over by a network of local and regional entrepreneurs. Tabea Marx and Dr Sebastian Händschke, who are the initiators of Lyonel e. V., are delighted: »The prize’s patrons wish to support talented young artists – and this is particularly important during the coronavirus pandemic. We are also pleased to be able to use the award and the event to help all nominees to interact with the jury and other interested parties.«
Samira Gebhardt was born in Munich in 1995. She began her studies in fine art at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 2015 and graduated in 2021 with a diploma, supervised by Professor Björn Dahlem. She has held a scholarship from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation since 2018.
