The Equal Opportunity Office and the Diversity Department, in cooperation with the Faculty of Media, hope to use the lecture series to initiate a sustainable and interdisciplinary dialogue. The core issue is how media and digital technologies can become a driving force in securing fairer futures for everyone. The lecture series addresses topics such as intersectional discrimination; stereotypes and power relationships in current film and television productions; discourses surrounding racism and academic freedom; the connection between disability, participation and video games; as well as intersectionality and media cultures in the context of the looming climate catastrophe. The aim is to create an open forum that gives all members of the University as well as guests the opportunity to share critical approaches and consider ecological and social issues from a new perspective.
On Monday, 8 May 2023, in the Oberlichtsaal of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the lecture series will be opened by Dr. Laura Hille of Leuphana University Lüneburg with a lecture entitled »The Exit of Silicon Valley: ›Survival of the Richest‹«.
The »New European Bauhaus Weimar« initiative poses the question of how, in the face of the global challenge of climate change, the future can be shaped collaboratively through the interaction of technology, science, art and design. The open format »Equity at Bauhaus II: Media Edition« endeavours to complement aesthetic and sustainable ideas with aspects of social inclusion and justice.
»Equity at Bauhaus II: Media Edition« is organised by the Equal Opportunity Office (Dr. Isabel Vila Cabanes), the Diversity Department and the Society and Digitalisation lectureship in the Faculty of Media (Dr. Irina Kaldrack) and is also offered as a Bauhaus.Module. The lecture series is open to the public and admission is free. Events will be held in English.
