The ILLUMULUS is an anonymous author that uses generative neural networks to create individual stories and images by interacting with visitors. One-of-a-kind »books« will be created for visitors to take with them.
»Currently, we are looking at how coherent works can be created through combining AI-generated images and texts«, says Marcel Gohsen, Scientific Associate in the Department of Intelligent Information Systems, referencing the upcoming Leipzig Book Fair. »The ILLUMULUS is a interactive performance that aims at making AI’s impressive capabilities tangible for everyone. We are excited to see how it’s going to work live.«
The idea for ILLUMULUS was inspired by the ILLUMATEN. It originated during an illustration project carried out at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 2007 under the leadership of illustrator Jutta Bauer. The project established itself and a group of illustrators from Weimar has been working with ILLUMATEN across ever since.
Visitors to the Leipzig Book Fair can test out the ILLUMULUS at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar stand from 21 to 24 March 2024. Prof. Benno Stein, Chair of Intelligent Information Systems, will also be speaking with Dr. Simon Frisch and Dr. Alexander König about the potential of and challenges posed by artificial intelligence at the interface of technology, science and art on 23 March 2024 from 2 to 3 pm.
