Marialuisa Capurso understands »Rubedo« as a process directed against the oppression and abuse by patriarchal power structures. The project follows a collaborative approach and includes workshops and radio compositions. Capurso explores and investigates the field of acoustic sounds and electronic interfaces as an extension of the human voice, as well as the connection between speech and movement. In collaborative work, she aims to create a space that allows participants to actively listen, relax and thus develop a new view of themselves.

Artists from over 70 countries applied for the second call for proposals in July 2021. The projects proposed range from podcasts to radio compositions and pieces to sound installations and live performances using archive material or newly created material and show the growing interest in radio art worldwide.

The aim of the Radio Art Residency is to promote independent artistic work and to support the realisation of new works of art. From using radio as an exhibition space for artworks to a real-time medium, the residency offers a wide range of creative possibilities for artistic practice.

The previous holder of the Radio Art Residency in Weimar, Masimba Hwati, completed his time in Weimar in July after numerous performances, artist talks, radio appearances and a radio art composition entitled »Msika-Shika«. The radio piece negotiates guerrilla radios in the Zimbabwean war of independence and the black market of Harare as sound spaces and places of resistance against colonial and post-colonial power structures. »Msika-Shika« will be premiered on 22 October at 00:05 (CET) on Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

About Marialuisa Capurso:
Marialuisa Capurso is a singer, sound artist, composer and researcher in the fields of voice, performance, visual arts, improvisation and ritual. She graduated with a Bachelor in Jazz Music at the Conservatory »N. Piccinni« in Bari and a Master in New Musical Languages at the Conservatory »N. Rota« in Monopoli. She has learned from and collaborated with musicians, dancers and artists worldwide: Meredith Monk, Patricia Pardi, Carl Berger, Kent Carter, William Parker, Faheem Mazar, among others.

The Radio Art Residency Weimar is a joint project of the Goethe-Institut and the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in cooperation with the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, EIGENHEIM Weimar/Berlin, ACC Galerie Weimar and Radio Lotte.
