New Science Discovery Centre - Invitation to the Grand Opening on 13 November 2024 at 2 pm
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Materials Research and Testing Laboratory Weimar (MFPA) have joined the »Stiftung für Technologie, Innovation und Forschung Thüringen« to found the Science Discovery Centre. Specialising in construction, the environment, and computer science, the new location is being developed on the ground floor of Marienstraße 7B for STEM enthusiasts and students interested in science and technology from the 4th grade and up.

In addition to welcoming speeches from Helmut Holter, Thuringian Minister of »Bildung, Jugend und Sport«, and Dr. Sven Günter, STIFT, visitors can also check out exciting experiments, a robot dog, and a guided tour of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering’s neighbouring Wind Lab. Two days later on 15 November 2024, the Science Discovery Centre Weimar will open its doors to the public for the first time as part of the Long Night of Sciences Weimar, during which they will be hosting a hands-on STEM event for the entire family from 6 to 11 pm.

»Schülerforschungszentren«: Each Centre is Unique
»Schülerforschungszentren« are spaces for children and youth who are enthusiastic about mathematics, computer science, the natural sciences, and technology (STEM). These centres allow children to carry out their own science projects, research, invent, and experiment. There are currently 117 »Schülerforschungszentren« in Germany. Thuringia is home to 12 of these centres, located in Erfurt, Jena, Nordhausen, Schmalkalden, Ilmenau, Gera, Gotha, Greiz and Rohr. Weimar is the latest location to be added to the list.
