Welcome to the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar! In the following FAQs, we have summarised the most important information about an exchange semester at the Faculty of Media.
The first step on the way to a semester abroad at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is to apply at your home university. Please contact your home university’s International Office or equivalent to find out more.
Following a successful application, your home university will nominate you for a semester abroad at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
After we have sent confirmation of your nomination to your home university, you can apply to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar via our ‘Online Portal for Incoming Students’. You will receive the link to the portal by e-mail after your nomination has been approved.

The winter semester usually begins on 1 October and ends on 31 March. The lecture period ends at the beginning / in the middle of February, followed by 2-3 weeks of examinations.
The summer semester usually begins on 1 April and ends on 30 September. The lecture period ends in mid-July, followed by 2-3 weeks of examinations.
The course catalogue (BISON portal) goes online approximately four weeks before the start of the lecture period. You can view the current courses offered by the various degree programmes from 1 September (before the winter semester), and from 1 March (before the summer semester).

The Learning Agreement is a contract between you, your home university and the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. It specifies which coursework you wish to complete in Weimar and to what extent it should be credited. You can obtain the relevant form from your home university or via the EU's Online Learning Agreement (OLA) platform.
To complete your Learning Agreement ‘before mobility’, please use our online course catalogue, BISON. Please bear in mind that the courses offered by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are only published about four weeks before the start of the relevant semester. However, if you need help, you can find the course archive of previous semesters here.
You can update the Learning Agreement ‘during mobility’ at the start of the semester in Weimar.
Your Learning Agreement will be signed by Annette Reese (International Counsellor) at the Faculty of Media.
Yes, the Language Centre of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers German courses at all levels. In addition to the intensive German courses in March and September, you can also attend German courses during the lecture period.
If you are interested in a German course, please visit the Language Centre's website.
There is no general course registration at the Faculty of Media. However, please check the respective course entry in the Bison course catalogue to find out whether you need to register for the course via Moodle (the learning platform of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar).
The Transcript of Records (ToR) is a list of the courses completed at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, together with ECTS credit points and grades obtained.
To receive your final Transcript of Records, please contact Annette Reese (International Counsellor).
As soon as your grades have been entered in the BISON database, you can also view your transcript of records yourself. You can find more information about this on page 7 of the Bison Manual for International Students.
Please note that the grades are only visible in the BISON database once the lecturers have created them and forwarded them to the Examinations Office. This can sometimes take until the end of September (summer semester) or the end of March (winter semester). If you require your grade(s) earlier than this, please let the relevant lecturer know beforehand.
In certain circumstances, exchange students may be able to extend their study period in Weimar by one semester. You can find more information here.
The staff of the International Office are your contacts for general questions about travel, visas, health insurance, accommodation, welcome events, etc. Your Confirmation of Stay will also be signed there.
