Have you been accepted for your study abroad programme? Congratulations! We have summarised the most important information about a semester abroad for you in the following FAQs.
You will find all the important information and documents you require for your studies abroad in the download centre of the International Office. It is necessary to complete a so-called Learning Agreement before your stay abroad.
The Learning Agreement is a contract between you, your faculty at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, and the host faculty or university. In it, you agree which coursework you wish to complete abroad and to what extent it should be credited. The host university thereby declares that your study plan (with or without changes) can be realised.
Please complete the Learning Agreement before you start your stay abroad, using the online template of the Erasmus+ programme.
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar guidelines for completing the Online Learning Agreement (OLA) can be found here.
Unfortunately, however, not all European universities are yet ready to process Learning Agreements online via the OLA platform. If you cannot find your host university after registering on the OLA platform, the Learning Agreement must be created in another way; either use the template provided by the host university, or we will send you a pdf template from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. If you need this, please contact: annette.reese[at]uni-weimar.de
If you are planning to study at a partner university outside Europe, we will be happy to send you a pdf template of a Learning Agreement. Please contact: annette.reese[at]uni-weimar.de
Check the website of your host university to find out about the courses on offer for the exchange semester. If you cannot find any information there for the coming academic year, please use the courses for the current academic year as a guide.
The courses should be selected so that they can be recognised as coursework completed abroad after your return. Your academic advisor will support you in this. You can find a current overview of the academic advice services at the Faculty of Media here.
Your academic advisor will sign the OLA. Please enter the e-mail address listed in the overview (in some cases, a functional e-mail address is used by the academic advice service). As soon as you have created your account on the OLA platform and filled out the OLA, the student advice service and the contact person at the host university will receive a link to be signed.
For the ‘Sending Responsible Person’ query, please enter the name of your academic advisor with the email address listed in the current overview.
Entering details of the ‘Sending Administrative Contact Person’ is not mandatory. However, you are welcome to enter Annette Reese as International Counsellor of the Faculty of Media with her contact details.
First of all, it is not uncommon for changes to be made to the course programme during your stay.
All changes must be noted in the Online Learning Agreement. Please inform your academic advisor immediately and coordinate the changes accordingly. Afterwards, please log in to the OLA platform again. Go to the ‘Changes to Online Learning Agreement’ section, and enter the changes accordingly. As soon as you have completed the OLA, the student advice service and the contact person at the host university will receive another link to be signed.
The Transcript of Records (ToR) documents your academic achievements at the host university by listing the courses you have completed, together with ECTS credit points and grades obtained.
You will receive the ToR from the host university. It may not be issued to you automatically. It is therefore best to ask your local contact person before you leave.
After you return from your stay abroad, submit your host university’s Transcript of Records (ToR) to your academic advisor. On the basis of the two documents (ToR and OLA), you will receive a letter of recognition of the coursework you have completed abroad, which will contain the following points:
1. the exact name of the courses completed at the host university, together with ECTS credit points and grades obtained.
2. the desired equivalent of the courses to be recognised and the credit points awarded for them at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The International Counsellor (Annette Reese) of the Faculty of Media will convert the grades obtained at the host university and forward them to the Examinations Office.
The final step in the recognition procedure is the entry of your grades in the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar's grade database by the Examinations Office.
You can find the Faculty of Media's guidelines for the recognition of academic achievements abroad here.
If you are planning an internship abroad, you can also receive Erasmus+ funding under certain circumstances. For further information, please contact the International Office at: andrea.weber[at]uni-weimar.de
