Welcome to the homepage of the Internationales Begegnungszentrum (IBZ - International Guest House) at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar!
History of the House
The IBZ „Harry Graf Kessler“ was built in 1997. Ever since it has been a guesthouse of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt. It was named after the diplomat, writer and book artist Harry Graf Kessler (1868 – 1937), who - being a patron of the arts, collector and director of the museum “Großherzogliches Museum für Kunst und Kunstgewerbe” - helped to bring forward the establishment of the famous “State Bauhaus”.
Purpose
The IBZ aims at assisting guests and researchers of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar through providing them with short-term option and/or facilitating the start for international guests and (guest) researchers in Germany. Therefore, the lease agreements are usually issued for 6 months. Extensions as well as shorter rental contracts are possible but must be decided upon by the Studierendenwerk Thüringen and the International Office at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
Especially for international guests, families, (guest) researchers, artists, designers and musicians who reside in Weimar for a short period of time, it can be difficult to find accommodation within the regular housing market. As IBZ seeks to facilitate their stay, these groups are treated preferentially in the allocation of apartments.
Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt regard themselves as international institutions of higher education, which want to make their international and cultural diversity perceptible in everyday life. To pursue this goal, IBZ offers informal events on a regular basis allowing its residents to better get to know the community.
The apartment offers at IBZ may be used by persons associated with the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar or an affiliated research facility (e.g. IKKM). This applies to:
Students (bachelor or master) are asked to approach Studierendenwerk Thüringen to get further information on housing options.
