Before leaving

Step 1 | De-register as a citizen of the city of Weimar

Fill out the document "Abmeldung einer Wohnung" (city de-registration form) on the website of the Citizens' Office of the City of Weimar (please find a translation aid for the form on the right, please make sure to fill-in the official template document, not the translation aid).

Step 2 | De-register from the "Rundfunkbeitrag"

Please de-register from the "Rundfunkbeitrag" (German Broadcasting Licence Fee) by completing the deregistration form on their website and selecting the option "Ich ziehe dauerhaft ins Ausland".

Please note
If you do not deregister from the "Rundfunkbeitrag" and one day come back to Germany (which we hope you will) to live here, you would be asked by the "Beitragsservice" to pay your debt for outstanding contributions. The "Beitragsservice" is not automatically notified when you leave the country and therefore assumes that you have lived in Germany all this time without paying the contribution.

Step 3 | Apply for a "Transcript of Records"

Please do not leave Weimar before you have spoken to the International Counsellor at your Bauhaus faculty about your "Transcript of Records".

Bring all certificates you have received for participation in lectures, exercises, projects, courses, etc. with you to apply for your Transcript of Records with the contact person at your Bauhaus Faculty.

Please note
The Transcript of Records is not created automatically. You can download a Transcript of Records from the BISON portal, but it will not become an official document until it is signed and stamped by your Bauhaus faculty.

Step 4 | Let documents have signed

Please check whether there are any documents that you need to have signed by an employee of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar before your departure.

ERASMUS students: must have the "Confirmation of Stay (Departure)" signed by the International Office 3-5 days before their departure. Please stop by the International Office (room 112) during office hours (Tues + Thurs 10-13) to have it signed by us.
 

Step 5 | Check-Out from the Student Residence and Deposit

Please make an appointment with the janitor of your building to organise your check-out and get your deposit back. Please read the General Terms and Conditions of the Studierendenwerk carefully - especially §7.

Step 6 | Close your bank account

Please make sure you close your bank account before you leave Weimar, as this must be done in person for proof of identity reasons.
