Begin your visit to the capital of Poland at the University of Warsaw Library – or rather on the library, where you will find a 1.5 hectare botanical garden on top of the library, one of the largest rooftop gardens in Europe. From here, you can not only admire the beauty of the plant world, but also enjoy a fantastic view of the city centre and the Vistula! Afterwards, make a detour to Keret House, but be careful not to accidentally walk past it: the building, erected in 2012, is considered the narrowest house in the world. Architecture enthusiasts may then want to visit the Zodiak, the Warsaw Architecture Pavilion, which aims to promote dialogue between the city and its citizens regarding Warsaw's architecture. The Poster Museum, the Museum for Modern Art with its Bródno sculpture park as well as the Neon Museum, which is dedicated to the preservation of neon signs from the Cold War, are all also definitely worth a visit. For those who have had enough of art and culture, you still have time to look for a unique souvenir at Mysia 3, shop for sustainable shoes and t-shirts at Ananas Warsaw and enjoy some fresh, homemade cookies or cake at SAM. In the evening, you can swap stories with other travellers at Południk Zero, or head to Klub SPATiF for a cocktail or a Polish beer and maybe even catch a jazz concert there if you’re lucky.
Trains depart almost every hour from Warsaw Central Station to the next stop on your journey: Poznań (travel time: 2 hours, 41 minutes).
Discovering Poznań is childsplay – simply download one of the many themed City Games and off you go. After that, treat yourself to an ice-cream at Lodziarnia Kolorowa or a handmade Martinshörnchen pastry in the Museum dedicated especially to this Poznań speciality! Then pass by Zamek Cultural Centre, where you’ll find an interesting exhibition, a concert in the evening or some other exciting event. If you love history, then don’t miss the interactive multimedia exhibition at Brama Poznania museum. Finally, stop off at Cytadela Park, the biggest urban park in Poznań, formerly a Prussian fortress, and visit the famous sculpture by Magdalena Abakanowicz. For dinner, head to U Dziadka, a hot spot for students, and enjoy some traditional Polish cooking before setting off to party at Klub Dragon.
From there, continue your journey to Berlin using one of the direct connections that leave several times a day (travel time: 2 hours, 50 minutes).
Start your day with a relaxed breakfast at Shakespeare and Sons Bookstore before visiting one of the many museums or galleries in Berlin. For example the Museum für Fotografie, the Computerspielemuseum or the Julia Stoschek Collection, a collection of modern art that focuses on time-based media. Or perhaps an exhibition at KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art, housed in an industrial monument, namely the former Kindl brewery in Neukölln? Afterwards you can visit Mogg to eat your fill at this former Jewish girls’ school or enjoy a fresh salad at Good Bank – ever heard of vertical farming? Then, if you feel like following that with an adventure, head to Teufelsberg or take a tour of the Berliner Unterwelten. If you’re interested in architecture, be sure to check out the thematic tours offered by bauhaus_touren, for example a tour looking at national construction culture in the GDR. You’re sure to find a unique souvenir of Berlin at Regal Rocker, a store where artists and designers sell their own creations. Another promising place to visit is the world’s first concept shopping mall, Bikinihaus! In the evening, take a detour to the Holzmarkt community project, or enjoy the view and the music at Klunkerkranich.
A regional train leaves Berlin’s main station every hour and will take you directly to the next stop on your journey: Dessau (travel time: 1 hour, 39 minutes).
Dessau has one clear main attraction: Bauhaus. So start your Bauhaus journey of discovery with breakfast at café-bistro! The Bauhaus Dessau App will help you on your journey and also provides you with a creative outlet. If you’ve had your fill of Bauhaus, try exploring another UNESCO World Heritage Site – best seen by bike: the Gartenreich Dessau-Wörlitz parks are home to numerous castles and gardens. Alternatively, why not visit the Technikmuseum? After refreshment at Lily’s Genusswerkstatt, make your way to the Räucherturm Tower and enjoy the panorama from there! And before falling into bed exhausted, grab a beer at Antik-Pub.
There are hourly rail connections from Dessau to Weimar (fastest travel time: 1 hour, 41 minutes). You have now reached the end of your journey – and are about to start experiencing the next exciting highlights!
