Extension of Stay for Exchange Students

STEP 1 | Confirmation of your faculty at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
In order to extend your stay, please first contact the International Counsellor of your Bauhaus-faculty. Discuss with him/her whether an extension would be possible from the faculty's point of view.
Ask for a written confirmation of the possibility to extend your stay by using the form "Extension of Study Abroad for Incoming Students", fill it in and have it signed by all involved parties.
STEP 2 | Confirmation of your home university
After you have received written confirmation of the extension from your Bauhaus-faculty, contact the student exchange contact person at your home university and ask him/her to sign the extension application as well.
STEP 3 | Confirmation of the International Office at Bauhaus-Universität
Once you have obtained the signatures of your home university and your Bauhaus-faculty, please send the extension application to the International Office of the Bauhaus University Weimar (incoming@uni-weimar.de).
After we have signed it, we will return the renewal application to you by mail. Please submit the complete application as confirmation to your home university.
STEP 4 | Transfer of the semester contribution
After your application for an extension has been approved by your home university, your Bauhaus faculty and the International Office of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, you must transfer the semester contribution. Please follow the instructions on the website of the Office of Student and Academic Affairs and observe the deadlines mentioned there.
STEP 5 | Residence status check
Please inform yourself out about your legal status in Germany and check with "Ausländerbehörde" (Foreigner´s Registration Office) whether any action is required with regard to your right of residence.
STEP 6 | Insurance check
If applicable, please contact your (international) health insurance company to ensure that your insurance cover remains valid for the time of your extension.
