Entry for EU citizens
| If you are a citizen of an EU country, you do not need a visa to enter Germany. After your arrival, however, you must register at the Foreigners' Registration Office (Ausländerbehörde) in Weimar. |
Registration at the "Ausländerbehörde"
All each exchange students are to be registered as a citizen of the city of Weimar after their arrival.
Please make an appointment with “Ausländerbehörde” (Foreigner´s Registration Office) to register and get your “Meldebescheinigung” (Registration Certificate), which serves as your proof of residence in Germany and is prerequiste for opening a German bank account.

For your appointment at the Ausländerbehörde, you need to bring the following documents:
- “Mietvertrag” (Rental Contract)
- “Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung” (Housing provider confirmation, which you will get upon request by your landlord or landlady)
Please note
you might want to schedule your appointment well before your arrival, as there may be long waiting times for an appointment (up to 4 weeks).
