»Gewohnter Wandel« Lecture Series Highlights Aspects of International Housing Research
The »Gewohnter Wandel. Gesellschaftliche Transformation und räumliche Materialisierung des Wohnens« joint research training group from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt began their work on 1 October 2024. The research training group will be presenting itself during the winter semester to the public in a lecture series providing insights into current international housing research.
How is housing researched? How are social transformation and the spatial materialisation of housing connected? Researchers from Germany and abroad will be discussing these key questions from various disciplinary perspectives.
The lecture series kicks off on 22 October by looking at the challenges and perspectives of housing research since the 1980s with a focus on the structures and objectives of the research training group. Joining the discussion in Weimar will be four experts: Prof. Ingrid Breckner, former Professor of »Stadt- und Regionalsoziologie« at the HafenCity University Hamburg, Prof. Monika Grubbauer, Professor of »Geschichte und Theorie der Stadt« at the HafenCity University Hamburg, Prof. Barbara Schönig, research training group spokesperson and Professor of Urban Planning at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, as well as Prof. Sebastian Schipper, Heisenberg Professor of »Geographische Stadtforschung« at the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main.
The lecture series will be held in German and English and will be available in hybrid form in other lecture halls.

Background:
The »Gewohnter Wandel. Gesellschaftliche Transformation und räumliche Materialisierung des Wohnens« research training group began their work on 1 October 2024 in Weimar and Frankfurt am Main. The project, which is funded by the German Research Foundation with 7.2 million euros, will enable up to 40 early-career researchers (postdocs and doctoral students) at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main - 25 of whom are directly funded by the DFG - to research the current situation of housing supply in the first phase until 2029. A close relationship between research, practice and transfer on housing issues is to be made possible through exchange and collaboration with cooperation partners. These partners include the »Institut Wohnen und Umwelt Darmstadt«(IWU), the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (UAS), the »Klassik-Stiftung Weimar«, the »Stiftung Baukultur Thüringen«, and the »Bundesverband für Wohnen und Stadtentwicklung e.V.« ).
