Media art alumnus Duc Ngo Ngoc honoured with Golden Lola for best script
For his script »Ha-Neu / Berlin«, which he developed together with Duc-Thi Bui, Media Art and Design graduate Duc Ngo Ngoc received the Golden Lola for the best unfilmed screenplay at the Berlinale. The prestigious award is endowed with 10,000 euros. We congratulate our alumnus and are delighted with this great success!
The two screenwriters developed their material together with Marcel Lenz from Weimar-based ostlicht filmproduktion GmbH. The road movie »Ha-Neu / Berlin« tells the story of young Vietnamese people in Europe, inspired by a true tragedy. In 2019, 39 dead Vietnamese people were found dead in the lorry of a smuggler in London.
»›Ha-Neu/Berlin‹ by Duc-Thi Bui and Duc Ngo Ngoc is light and humorous, a wonderfully lively and authentic comedy. But films, just like life, are read from the end. And there lurks an abyss that gives the story its painful depth and completely won the jury over to this drama,« explained the jury members their decision.
Duc Ngo Ngoc was born in Hanoi in 1988 and came to Berlin at the age of five. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Media Art and Design at the Faculty of Art and Design at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. He then went on to complete a master's degree in directing at the Babelsberg Film University. In his work, Duc Ngo Ngoc deals with stories that tell of Vietnamese people in Germany and Vietnam.
The German Screenplay Award is the most important and most highly endowed award for screenwriters in Germany. The award for the best unfilmed screenplay is accompanied by a prize of 10,000 euros.
