ACHAVA Festspiele Opening Ceremony at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar on 5 October
This year is the first time that the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is a partner of the ACHAVA Festspiele Thüringen. As part of this cooperation, a discussion series with Shoah survivors and their descendants, speakers from Israel and Germany, and instructors and students from the University will take place on Thursday, 5 October 2023 from 2 to 6 pm. A celebration will follow on the University campus to kick off the new semester at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and to mark the official beginning of the ACHAVA Festspiele Thüringen.
Engage in discussions with one another and take part in an important conversation: This is the goal of the ACHAVA Festspiele Thüringen, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and many other partners on 5 October 2023. Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students will be organising their own discussion series, Shoah survivors and their descendants will be speaking about their experiences, and speakers from Israel and Germany will be reflecting on the future.
The series will begin with the »Seat#12« seating installation by artist and Faculty of Media staff member Jenny Brockmann. The communicative sculpture will be staged in the Main Building especially for his day and is intended to inspire a lively space for discussion, conversation and discourse that will include all participants. In addition, the staircases will be arranged into atmospheric spaces with bistro tables and chairs in order to inspire small group conversations.

Students and guests are then welcomed to join the opening event, which will take place under the motto »Let’s Dance Meschugge«.
Israeli DJ Yaniv Tal from Munich and DJ hotbottom & FLAX from Metaware, a queer-feminist collective in Weimar, will be operating the turntables and setting the mood until midnight. The event is organised by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students. The party kicks off at 7 pm on the University campus.
The »Lebendige Erinnerung – Das Leben des Pavel Taussig – der Legetrick-Animationsfilm« holiday workshop will also take place from 5 to 8 October for pupils in grades 8 to 12 from Weimar’s secondary schools. Tina Wagner, photographer, filmmaker, artist and Bauhaus-Universität Weimar alumna, will be leading the workshops and showing the basics and various techniques of cutout animation.
In small groups, participants will select excerpts from the previously presented story told by Shoah survivor Pavel Taussig. Musician and son of Pavel, Martin Taussig, will be working musically with the pupils and helping arrage and record music for the animated film.
The aim of the course is for participants to put themselves in the shoes of someone who has been discriminated against and to create and present short films and collages together based on the biographies of survivors.
