»Nous & Moi« Event Series Explores Democratic Engagement
From 18 October to 10 December 2024, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Sprachenzentrum | Centre for Language and Cultural Learning will be hosting a series of events at the Markt 21 Gallery in Weimar and exploring topics of democratic participation and European identity.
The bilingual »Nous ou eux - eine Auseinandersetzung mit europäischer Identität« exhibition begins on 18 October. The exhibition was a collaboration between three French courses taught by Hélène Dal Farra at the Sprachenzentrum | Centre for Language and Cultural Learning during the 2023/2024 winter semester. It is accompanied by intergenerational, intercultural interviews that provide visitors with a unique insight into the topic.
Visitors are invited to engage in various ways with the question: How can we as Europe citizens become closer and, as individuals, feel more a part of the community?
The event series also highlights central questions on democratic engagement and intercultural openness:
- 18 October, 8 pm: Vernissage opening by Prof. Peter Benz; musical accompaniment by Ani Motz.
- 24 October, 6 pm: Role play in English: Weimar residents present a citizens’ initiative to the city council. Subsequent discussion with the »Parole: Frauen für Demokratie« initiative.
- 14 November, 6 pm: Prof. Dr. Frank Eckardt, Department of Urban Studies and Social Research, and Pauline Bönisch present a project for Weimar-West. Introduction by Vice President for Social Transformation Dr. Ulrike Kuch.
- 28 November, 6 pm: Europe quiz night in French. Spaces are available for five teams of four and there will be prizes for everyone! Registration via e-mail helene.dal.farra[at]uni-weimar.de. Deadline is 25 November.
- 5 December, 6 pm: Mini presentation on sustainability and well-being in European cities with discussion in English.
The event series »Nous & moi - eine Auseinandersetzung mit demokratischer Teilhabe« is presented by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Sprachenzentrum | Centre for Language and Cultural Learning together with the C.Keller & the Markt 21 Gallery e.V. Entrance is free of charge.
