SpaceKidHeadCup: Annual Soapbox Race Set to Take Place on 1 May in the Windmühlenstraße
Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students invite you to the legendary »SpaceKidHeadCup« soapbox race on Wednesday, 1 May 2024. Daredevil drivers can compete for this year's »Style« and »Speed« trophies as they steer their soapboxes down Windmühlenstraße.
All drivers must register between 10 am and 12 noon to ensure that the race can begin promptly at 1 pm. Soapboxes can compete in both speed and creativity in two rounds and will be judged by a jury. Prizes will be awarded to the winners directly after the race at around 4 pm. A colourful audience of students, Weimar citizens, spectators —some who have travelled from far and wide, will undoubtedly flank the route once again.
Anyone is is still interested in building a soapbox can join the workshop on Saturday 27 April and Sunday 28 April starting at 10 am. Visitors will be introduced to the secret world of soapboxes in the courtyard behind the Van de Velde Building (Geschwister-Scholl-Straße 7) where they can unleash their creativity and build little speedsters and rockets on wheels. The event is intended to provide all ambitious racing teams who do not have access to a hobby cellar or workshop the chance to take part in the competition. A standard set of tools will be available and materials provided.
As a perfect cap off to the day, everyone is invited to the celebratory party beginning at 9 pm. This will be held in the Alten Speicher in the north of Weimar. A special thanks this year goes to the children and staff at Weimar’s campus.kinder day care centre, who contributed artwork for this year’s event.
