The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is an international university — peace and respect for international law are prerequisites for unrestricted, creative research and teaching together with partner universities and cooperation partners around the world. The university’s Presidium stated: »We stand together in absolute solidarity with our Ukrainian neighbours in Europe and with our colleagues in academia there. We strongly condemn the Russian attack on Ukraine and appeal to Russia to stop the war immediately.«

Approximately 480 tonnes of waste end up of the streets of Khulna, the largest city in the densely populated Ganges Delta, every day. This waste includes huge quantities of plastic, which then makes it way into the ocean via the adjacent waterways. If nothing is done to stop this, ocean contamination will continue to increase. The goal of this joint project is to establish a sustainable waste management system in Khulna to reduce plastic pollution and to protect marine ecosystems. The project, which is being funded with nearly four million euros, will be implemented under the leadership of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar until 2024.

On 3–5 March 2022, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and ETH Zurich will host a joint conference to explore the legacy of postmodern architecture and urbanism dating from the 1970s to the 1990s. The conference aims to engage in a scholarly examination of architectural and historical research on this topic and to discuss the monument-preserving approach to the testimonies of postmodernism as well as their further development.

The Thuringia Alliance, which the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar belongs to, is currently presenting an interactive exhibit that examines visionary ideas for environmentally friendly neighbourhoods. Interested visitors are invited to explore the exhibition in the German Pavilion until 31 March 2022.

Picking up where he left off, Prof. Diébédo Francis Kéré provided inspiring insights into his work during his second visit to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, this time with a focus on participatory architecture. In an experimental workshop format on Wednesday 19 January 2022, which Prof. Kéré led together with Dipl.-Ing. Julia Heinemann, scientific staff member in the Building Morphology Department, architecture students were given the opportunity to engage with the concept of participatory processes and develop daring design ideas.

Following the immense success of his inaugural lecture in November, Bauhaus-Guest Professor Diébédo Francis Kéré, together with Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students, will be focussing in depth on the topic of »Participatory Architecture« this January.

The jury, including representatives of the Goethe-Institut, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Galerie Eigenheim Weimar/Berlin and the previous artist-in-residence, chose the Italian artist Marialuisa Capurso with her project »Rubedo«. The artist will work in Weimar from 15 September to 15 December 2021.

Prof. Danica Dakić, professor of Freie Kunst in the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, has been honoured with the most important art prize in Germany: the Deutschen Akademie Rom Villa Massimo Rome Prize. At the end of June, Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media Monika Grütters presented the scholarships for 2022/23 residencies at the Deutschen Akademie Rom Villa Massimo and Casa Baldi, which are supported by the German government, as well as residencies at the Deutschen Studienzentrum in Venice.

Ab dem kommenden Wintersemester 2021/22 wird die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Teil der Studienbrücke sein, einem studienvorbereitenden Bildungsprogramm des Goethe-Instituts in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst (DAAD) und acht deutschen Partnerhochschulen. Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ist damit die erste Partnerhochschule aus Thüringen und beteiligt sich mit vier Bachelorstudiengängen der Fakultäten Bauingenieurwesen und Medien.

Das International Office verleiht den mit 1.000 Euro dotierten DAAD-Preis jährlich an internationale Studierende der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, die neben exzellenten fachlichen Leistungen auch ein besonderes interkulturelles oder soziales Engagement gezeigt haben. MediaArchitecture-Student Ruo-Xuan Wu aus Taiwan überzeugte 2020 durch seine exzellenten Leistungen und die Relevanz seiner Projekte, in denen er sich mit Diskriminierung auseinandersetzt. Am Dienstag, 2. Februar 2021, wird der Preis virtuell verliehen.

Alle zwei Jahre loben das International Office und die Universitätskommunikation der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar einen Fotowettbewerb aus. Teilnehmen können alle Studierenden, die im Ausland studiert oder ein Praktikum absolviert haben oder internationale Studierende, die nach Weimar gekommen sind. Nun hat die achtköpfige Jury die Preisträgerinnen und Preisträger des Wettbewerbes ausgewählt. Ein Novum: Erstmals wurde per Online-Voting ein Publikumspreis vergeben.

Lesungen, Quizzes, Vorträge und kleine Partys: In der kommenden Woche, vom 14. bis einschließlich 21. Dezember 2020, lädt das Sprachenzentrum der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar alle, die international Weihnachten feiern möchten, zu seiner ersten digitalen Weihnachtswoche ein. Jeden Abend ist unter dem angegebenen Link etwas los: Erleben können die Teilnehmenden zum Beispiel Weihnachtsbräuche aus unterschiedlichen Ländern.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is participating in Weimar's Intercultural Week for the first time with a showcase exhibition, a radio report, a digital edition of the Language Café and a city tour called »Decolonize Weimar«. This is the 31st time that the Intercultural Week is taking place. The event is organised by Weimar's Ausländerbeauftragten (foreign affairs representative) and Ausländerbeirat (foreigner’s advisory council) and will take place from 27.09 to 04.10.2020 under this year's motto »Zusammen leben, zusammen wachsen« (living together, growing together).

Individuals from different backgrounds, cultures and living situations come together at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The university recognizes the incredible potential in this diversity and that it is something to be encouraged and protected. Miriam Benteler has held the position of Diversity Officer at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since November 2019 and is committed to providing equal opportunities and removing obstacles and disadvantages for students, doctoral candidates, and employees.

Am 28.November 2019 wurde der DAAD-Preis 2019 für internationale Studierende an Jyotsna Gorle (Indien), Studierende der Fakultät Medien, verliehen. Im Rahmen der Vergabefeier im Campus.Office wurden außerdem die STIBET Abschlussstipendien für internationale Studierende sowie drei Sonderpreise des International Office vergeben.

Vom 5. bis 7. Dezember 2019 findet die internationale Tagung »Das Diorama: durch ... denken« an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar statt. Sie wird vom Teilprojekt »Mimesis des Raumbildes. Das Diorama als serielle und immersive Mimesis« der DFG-Forschungsgruppe »Medien und Mimesis (FOR 1867/2)« unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Lorenz Engell und Prof. Dr. Christiane Voss im Salon des ehemaligen Palais Dürckheim ausgerichtet. Die Tagung macht es sich zur Aufgabe, Dioramen als Medien »durch ... denken« zu verstehen.

Im Oktober reiste Prof. Dr. Winfried Speitkamp, Präsident der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, zusammen mit Prof. Dr. Hans-Rudolf Meier und Jens Jordan von der Professur Denkmalpflege und Baugeschichte der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar sowie Prof. Thomas Will von der Technischen Universität Dresden für mehrere Tage nach Usbekistan. Anlass der Reise war ein Besuch am Taschkenter Institut für Architektur und Bauwesen, bei dem auch ein Einblick in ein gemeinsames Projekt erfolgen konnte.
