Bauhaus Summer School 2023 – An International Event Teeming with Talent
From 13 August to 2 September 2023, experimentation, learning and building will be taking over the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus once more: 215 participants from 50 different countries will be attending various one- to three-week language and tech-nical courses at the Bauhaus Summer School.
This year’s Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Summer School is offering eleven specialist courses and two language courses. Over a two-week period, attendees from the fields of architecture and urbanism, art and design, media and culture, technology and the environment, and languages will be presented with subject-specific challenges and encouraged to engage in international and intercultural exchanges.
The »BIY – Build it Yourself democratically« course participants, for instance, will explore how to design and build furniture out of basic materials. Students taking part in »Memories, Faces Spaces – a documentary Filmmaking Experience« will gain insight on how to produce short documentary films, and »Design Tools for Play - Playful Intervention Embracing Homo Ludens« students will teach students how to develop their own games. This year, the Summer School will be offering the opportunity to delve even deeper into German culture for the first time through courses like »Germany and Fashion«, »Moderne Literatur und Gesellschaft« and »German Bauhaus«.
Extensive Supporting Programme
During weekends and evenings, international participants are invited to discover central Germany’s most important cities as well as the region’s beautiful nature. The programme includes a celebratory international dinner and yoga in Park and der Ilm. Thanks to a cooperation with the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, the city’s museum’s and castles are free of charge for participants this year. In addition to the various courses offered, the event’s social programme is one of the reasons international participants continue to find their way to Weimar.
Students will stay in Weimar until 2 September. The programme highlight takes place shortly before students depart: the final presentations from all courses, which will be held under the motto »Open.Ateliers« will take place on 1 September 2023 starting at 3 pm on the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus at Geschwister-Scholl-Straße.Interested visitors are warmly invited to attend.
