»In jedem Schiebefenster ein Stück Zukunftsstaat? (A piece of Futuristic State in every Sliding Window?) « – Weimarer Kontroversen (Weimar Controversies) 2019
From 20 to 22 November, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Bauhaus Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture and Planning of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar invite you to their joint series of events called »Weimarer Kontroversen«. On the occasion of this year's Bauhaus anniversary, the international conference will examine the relationship between utopia and design by analysing the historic Bauhaus style and culture. Building on this, another topic of discussion will be the relevance of historical and current designs of utopia for the present.
Lucian Hölscher from the Ruhr University Bochum will be speaking at the Bauhaus Museum Weimar about the topic »Utopie und Enttäuschung. 100 Jahre Bauhaus. (Utopia and Disappointment.100 years of Bauhaus) «. On the second day, 21 November, lectures by experts from the USA, Australia, Austria and Germany will take place from 10 am to 6 pm in the Neue Weimarhalle congress centre (Flügelsaal 1). Afterwards, at 7 pm, Danica Dakić will present her »ZENICA TRILOGY« installation at the Bauhaus Museum Weimar. The conference will end with »Bauhaus Dialogues« on 22 November: from 10 am to 4 pm, short introductory presentations will be followed by discussions between the conference participants.
Since 2016, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Bauhaus Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture and Planning of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar have been inviting guests to participate in »Weimarer Kontroversen«. Every year, together with international guests, they take current topics from the Bauhaus environment as an opportunity to discuss the contemporary relevance of the art and design school. The series of events is sponsored by the Thuringian State Chancellery.
