The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers twelve types of scholarships, which 57 scholars earned this year. The scholarship award ceremony took place on May 8.
Prof Dr-Ing Karl Beucke, President of the University, opened the event. "I am proud of the scholarship recipients we have the pleasure of awarding certificates today", Beucke said and emphasized the growing significance of the scholarships in the last few years. After a warm greeting, the awarding of the scholarships took place. Seventeen of the scholarship recipients come from other countries, including Iran, China, Bangladesh, Serbia, Hong Kong, Armenia, Vietnam and Colombia, or have dual citizenship.
The scholarships awarded this year were the Presidential Scholarship for Dedicated International Students, the Bauhaus Scholarship for Students and MINT Students, the Bauhaus Graduation Scholarship for Art Degree Final Projects, the Scholarship of the Society for the Support of Gifted Students and Doctoral Candidates, the Germany Scholarship, the Equal Opportunity Scholarship--for artists and designers as well as for doctoral candidates in order to ease the entry into doctoral programmes or the completion of the doctoral degree after parental leave--the Thüringian Graduate Support and the Bauhaus Postdoc Scholarships. A new scholarship was awarded this year, the STIBET PhD Scholarship for international doctoral candidates.
In addition to President Beucke, Prof Dr Andreas Ziemann, Dean of the Faculty of Media, Prof Dr Karl-Josef Witt, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Prof Dr Walter Bauer-Wabnegg, Vice-President for Research and Art, who presided over the award ceremony with interesting anecdotes about the origins of the scholarships, their own travel plans and quotes from Goethe, the students presented their projects and plans.
Both Presidential Scholarship recipients Weiwei Wang (Product Design) and Bojana Ristic (Media Art/Media Design) presented their work for the "Foreigners become Friends" sponsor program of Thuringia Student Services at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The graduate and documentary film-maker Anke Trojan received her second scholarship. During the award ceremony, she showed her previous final project and enchanted the guests with a cut from her film At the End of a Mission – the House of the White Fathers in Africa.
At the end of the event, Prof Dr Walter Bauer-Wabnegg encouraged applications for next year from students with numerous projects and exceptional achievements: «After the scholarship award ceremony is the next scholarship award ceremony«.
