The Van-de-Velde Year at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

In 2013, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is celebrating one of its most influential minds—Henry van de Velde. The time he spent in Weimar between 1902 and 1917 is considered his most productive phase. He realised a wealth of public and private buildings, interior- and furniture designs. In 1902, the »multi-talented artist« founded his arts and crafts workshop and erected two of his most important architectonic works—the Weimar Saxon-Grand Ducal Art School and the School of Arts and Crafts—between 1904 and 1911. The buildings, which now house the Faculties of Art & Design and Architecture, have become UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, in partnership with the organisation Impulsregion Erfurt Weimar Jena, is honouring the Belgian architect and designer’s considerable oeuvre on the occasion of his 150th birthday.
