Expand your source – use strategies to improve your writing and avoid plagiarism!
This 2.5 hour workshop equips participants with the skills required to incorporate and document sources in line with academic citation conventions. In order to write from sources successfully, academic writers must carefully rephrase and reference source texts. There are many different conventions across disciplines and source-use errors may lead to suspicions of plagiarism. Source-based academic writing also entails a command of adequate academic language, for example reporting verbs. The workshop aims to raise awareness of the functions of intertextuality in academic writing. It focuses on strategies of paraphrasing and referencing that provide participants with the skills required to use sources in appropriate and effective ways. Note: Reference management is not part of this workshop.
