Project description

In our seminar "Housing Question and Climate Crisis," we extensively explored the interconnection between social and ecological issues in housing. Our society faces the challenge of ensuring both equitable housing provision and environmental protection. The numbers speak for themselves: More people are suffering from rising housing costs and the threat of displacement. Additionally, the building sector is responsible for 30% of CO2 emissions in Germany. Over the past decade, rents have increased by an average of 40%, while people's disposable income has not kept pace. Furthermore, an additional 2.5 million housing units are needed in Germany by 2030 to meet demand.

Our exhibition sheds light on the close relationship between the housing question and the climate crisis. Through visually engaging posters, we illustrate how various aspects of housing, such as demolition and embodied energy, building materials and supply chains, urban sprawl and land sealing, energy-efficient renovations and displacement, as well as size and distribution of housing, intersect.

The exhibition aims to raise awareness and initiate a crucial societal discourse. We call for affordable housing, sustainable and social construction and renovation measures, and equitable distribution of housing. Together, we can build a future that ensures a livable environment for all.
