Project description

Under the title PERSPEKTIVEN, the photography students of BUW present their work at Schillerstraße 3. Under the direction of Birgit Wudtke, Pio Rahner and Anja Engelke, they have dealt with the genre of portraiture and the image of the street. In the empty store space, Tarek Rishmawi and three student teams are curating a spatial concept with prints and objects for Summaery 2023.
Thematically, the department focuses on processes of democratization, which are set in motion, among other things, by the lively discourse with and among the students. Who am I, individually considered and in society? Who and what determines my perspective and how can I broaden it in discourse and in dealing with photography? Who is looking at whom or what and how is it looked at? Photography offers the possibility to question, to reconsider, to shift one's own point of view. This can be the result of a (mutual) mirroring, which can be accomplished with the help of photography. The street is the public space where people with different stories come together, look at each other, let their gaze wander. The preoccupation with the street as a socio-cultural space, as a system of order and as a building is illuminated in excerpts. The representation of the environment is formed on the basis of the individual perspective, but also on the basis of the design and as a result of the medium and the material.
