Project description
In this project, the students obtain knowledge about the theory and practice of experimental modal analysis. They create first finite element models of the investigated structures and compute natural frequencies and mode shapes. Based on this information, the experimental setups are developed.
In several test series vibration experiments are performed in the laboratory. By means of the data acquired during the tests, natural frequencies, mode shapes and modal damping ratios of the investigated structures are identified. With this information and the finite element models, conclusions about structural damage or other changes of the structural properties can be drawn. Further, prognostic structural analyses for perspective loading situations can be carried out based on the results of the investigations.
