Project description

One of the last large areas in Berlin is becoming vacant, the site of the former Grunewald freight station. The area is ideally connected with three S-Bahn stations, Kudamm and Grunewald are in the immediate vicinity and despite its location between railway and motorway, the site evokes an atmosphere of idyllic seclusion. Here are fifteen hectares of open space for the housing construction so urgently needed in Berlin.

The Berlin Senate for once wants to do everything right and has decided to take lots of time to develop the area - the perspective is the year 2040, more precisely: "2040+".
We were a bit faster and found out together with our students in three months what could be done with the area. We searched for ideas on how on the idyllic island a piece of city, a green jungle or all of it together can be created, under the specific conditions of the site and sustainable urban design.
