Emergency Fund by the Freundeskreis der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Who can be sponsored?
Students and doctoral candidates at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are eligible for funding (certificate of enrolment or proof of acceptance by the graduation committee required).

What do we mean by crisis areas?
Funding is provided to students and doctoral candidates who are in need due to a crisis situation in their countries of origin/countries in which they had their residence prior to their stay in Weimar and who, for this reason, cannot (temporarily) receive financial support from their family.

The crisis situation may, for example, have been caused by war, civil war, persecution and flight or by severe natural disasters. Countries for which the Federal Foreign Office has issued a full travel warning are considered crisis areas (Aktuelle Reisewarnungen - Auswärtiges Amt (auswaertiges-amt.de)).

What do we mean by an acute emergency?
We assume an acute emergency situation if it is not possible for the students and doctoral candidates to finance their livelihood, i.e. to pay rent, food, health insurance, medication, etc. (also by limited work permit due to holding a certain residence title (»for study purposes«)).
Chronic illnesses and impairments as well as existing care obligations towards other family members are given special consideration.

What formats are available?
1. Emergency assistance to cover costs for short-term needs in acute emergencies if no other assistance is available.
One-time payment with a short term, extensions are possible depending on need and availability of funds, the amount of payment depends on the acute need applied for.

2. Scholarship for basic funding of 3 or 6 months.
Monthly payment, based on the Bafög rate (870 €).

Income from regular part-time jobs is deducted from the amount.

Students and doctoral candidates with child(ren)/ family members on site can receive an additional 150 € per person, provided that no state aid is available for them. In case of acute additional needs (e.g. illness, additional family members), further funds can be applied for.

The scholarship is intended to bridge longer-lasting emergencies if no other public or private support programmes help. (The possibility of taking out loans and credits are not considered support programmes in this sense). If the need for support is reduced or eliminated during the grant period, recipients are asked to inform us about any change. The funds can then be used for the benefit of others in need.
