Bauhaus Anniversaries 2009-2023
The State Bauhaus was founded in 1919 in the Main Building of the university. The term »Bauhaus«, which has been part of the university’s name since 1996, stood then as it does today for a willingness to experiment, openness, creativity and the will to find answers to central questions of art and culture, technology, science and society using contemporary methods.
In recent years, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has used the anniversaries of the historic Bauhaus as opportunities to highlight current projects and future plans together and with partners from the community and from the fields of art and science. Numerous events have attracted visitors to come and experience science, art teaching and student life at our vibrant, future-oriented university.
To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Bauhaus in Weimar in 2009, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar took ideas from the classic Bauhaus and reflected them in contemporary projects and education programmes at its founding site. This is the location where historical legacy is brought together with current ideas, artistic and scientific perspectives, and teaching at a future-oriented university. The numerous events held throughout the anniversary year focussed on three main themes: the historic Bauhaus, presenting current projects and perspectives, and academic workshops, conferences, symposiums and colloquia.
