Centenary fund to further student ideas and projects 100 years since the first major Bauhaus exhibition 1923–2023
23:ideas fund
The 23:ideas fund aims to support the implementation of ideas for the presentation and display of students’ work or projects during the 2023 anniversary year. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is taking the centenary of the first major Bauhaus exhibition held in 1923 as an opportunity to present research outcomes, designs, artwork and products created at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar to a wider audience. The event period runs from April until the end of October 2023, with a focus on the summaery2023 (13–16 July 2023) and the Bauhaus Weeks (15 August–10 September).
Funding conditions
1. Subject of the funding:
Public formats, exhibitions, presentations, displays, performances and their communication to a regional and national audience form the subject of the funding. The projects are to be implemented during the event period. Applications are particularly welcome from student teams that include and involve the international partners of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Kunstfest Weimar.
2. Eligibility:
All students of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are eligible to apply.
3. Funding:
The funding can also be used as capital to acquire further funding. Third-party funding is not required to apply for funding.
A maximum of 20,000 EUR in funding will be allocated per project. A total of 80,000 EUR is being made available for projects through the 23:ideas fund.
4. Use of funding:
The funding can be used to cover the following costs:
- rent (exhibition rooms)
- materials
- transport
- guests’ travel expenses (lectures, workshops)
- external companies for assembly, dismantling, disposal
- necessary supervision
4. Funding period:
The funding period ends in October 2023. Events must have been completed at the latest by this time. The location, time and duration of events must be coordinated with the 2023 working group at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
5. Application procedure:
The call for applications will be released in April 2023; the date will be announced to the university public. Applications must be submitted to ellen.richter@uni-weimar.de as a PDF file. Applications should be at least one and no more than three A4 pages in length and contain the following points:
- project presentation, goals and feasibility
- project relevance for presentation of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar to the public in the 2023 exhibition year
- schedule: project start date and duration, deadlines
- financial plan
If necessary, applicants will be asked to present their applications during the selection committee meeting.
6. Funding allocation procedure:
The selection committee of the 2023 working group at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will decide on the allocation of funding.
The following aspects will be considered:
- originality of the idea
- plausibility and quality of the application
- relevance to the regional and national visibility of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
- feasibility of project implementation by October 2023
- submission by student (interdisciplinary) teams
- cooperation with the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar, the partner universities of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar or the Klassik Stiftung Weimar
The deadline for the submission of applications is 21 May 2023. The projects selected will be announced at the latest by the start of June 2023.
7. Announcement, presentations and reporting obligations:
The university will share details of the projects selected for funding with the university public. Applicants will be notified in writing of the decision of the 2023 working group.
The events funded must be open to the public and free to attend (i.e. no admission fees). The choice of venues is at the discretion of the applicants. Event locations, time periods and dates are to be coordinated with the 2023 working group of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
Following presentation of the projects (but at the latest after the funding period ends in October 2023), a project report of at least two A4 pages in length (PDF file or paper format) must be submitted to the 2023 working group. This must comprise a report on the event and a financial report. The project report must be submitted by 27 November 2023.
8. Project implementation:
During implementation of the selected projects, the beneficiaries are bound to the budget they submitted. The use of funding must be documented in the financial report and will be reviewed by the 2023 working group. The management principles of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar apply.
