The Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism with its twin disciplines of architecture and urbanism und additional study courses offers a well-rounded educational programme. Here you will learn the skills and abilities required for creative, self-determined design work and academic study, preparing you for an almost endless range of professions and disciplines, nationally as well as internationally. Our bachelor's degree programmes in architecture and urban planning provide a firm foundation for your future career while our master's degree programmes round off your education with courses that focus on current aspects in the profession of architecture and urban design.

As one of the largest architecture faculties in Germany, international professors and staff from 22 departments will guide and assist you individually on the path to successfully completing your studies. Our long-standing links and international exchange programmes with selected partner universities offer you the best possible conditions for gaining valuable academic and personal experiences abroad, providing you with an optimal basis for working as a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism in renowned offices around the world and as a part of the international community.

As part of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism provides an environment that is wide-ranging and experimental, a place where one can study and reinvent our selves and how we live over and over. A central aspect of studies is research-oriented and project-based design work - real design tasks and interdisciplinary experiments provide an elementary foundation. We aim to communicate architecture and urbanism as a complex system of relationships that encompasses an understanding of history and theoretical background, design and reflection, experimentation and scientific analysis as well as craft and modern technology.

Our specific and contemporary profile is shaped by architecture and the city, and the close connection between them, with design playing a central role in the holistic consideration of the built and designed environment.

The faculty and its many parts, all within close proximity, provide a series of different atmospheres and environments including well-equipped work studios, modern model-making workshops, computer pools and a digital imaging laboratory – ideal conditions for concentrated design work and for successfully completing your studies. Your education at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism benefits from close links to the other Faculties of Civil Engineering, Art and Design and Media and accordingly from the variety of creative and scientific ways of working at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

The Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism is equally active in the field of research as it is in the development of new construction and planning concepts. In addition to hosting numerous regional and international conferences and professional symposia, the faculty also influences building activities in the city of Weimar. The activities of the faculty range from the development and ongoing supervision of a Bauhausinspired model housing estate to the construction of numerous excellent buildings by professors and graduates from the university.

As a consequence, the city of Weimar, previously most well known for its historical buildings, has acquired a reputation for modern architecture. In short, Weimar is a friendly place in which one can live and breathe architecture.

If you want to address the spatial and building tasks of our time and the future, you've come to the right place: Welcome to the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism!
