In the work »Animal Furniture« the animal motif is inspired not only by artistic or aesthetic thought but also by a critical view of society.
The goal of the work was the artistic examination of the point of intersection between technology and nature. In her previous projects, Gokcen Dilek Acay examined themes such as power, violence and authority. »Animal Furniture« illustrates the connection between political and human violence directed at the self, others, and animals. At the centre of the project is the power of humans over the »beast« in various social contexts and works of art. Violence is depicted as an Instrument of anthropocentrism through various examples. Taking a speciesism approach, animals in contemporary art and their influence on the observer is analysed to stimulate discourse. The results of the discourse are then implemented in applied expressionistic forms.
