The short film »Vier Träume« [Four Dreams] by Jana Magdalena Keuchel tells the story of Lina who is making a movie about her dreams that revolve around her problems of meeting the demands of growing up. While making the movie, reality, fiction and the dream world begin to merge. The film consists of four dreams in episodic form and each aesthetically resembles a feature film. The dreams themselves are based on investigations by the sociologist Klaus Hurrelmann, whose research addresses problems that the young generation of today has with growing up »in the conventional sense«.
Hurrelmann claims that there are two characteristics nowadays that young people reach at an especially late age or never at all. The result is an emotional dissonance; some characteristics are strongly developed at an early stage, while others are postponed indefinitely. In contrast to traditional standards, the dissonance creates a general sense of insecurity when defining oneself. The installation features four screens depicting the character Lina and how she responds to the symbolically achieved or unachieved characteristics in four dreams.
