Intervention in public space | 2010 - 2014
Funded by the Kreativfonds and the Postgraduate Funding of Thuringia
The goal of Deklarismus.org is to study public spaces and make the fascinating traces and fragments of conscious and unconscious design visible. The discovered items are not removed from their original context and put on display in museums, but are designated as exhibition pieces on site. These objects are then no longer concealed from view, but rather invite curious passers-by to inspect them closer. As the designer or original intention of the works is largely unknown, the objects remain untitled.
The current collection features works around the Weimar region, as well as in Pößneck und Steinach. The organisers consciously chose such out-of-the-way exhibition venues to emphasise that valuable cultural treasures of society are frequently located outside of major cultural centres. The monotony and tristesse of the periphery is an illusion. Instead, we find traces of happy coincidences and intentional design: magical objects, relics of our civilisation, which have often lost their original function, their significance no longer obvious, which offers the viewer plenty of room for interpretation.
With the provided funding, the organisers were able to investigate the region around Weimar and the towns of Pößneck and Steinach. The project featured walking tours, as well as bus and bike tours of the expedition venues, and produced an online and printed documentation of the project.
