»Leerlaufprozesse – eine heitere Sammlung in Bildern« [Leerlaufprozesse – A Cheerful Collection in Pictures] is a large-format illustrated magazine based on the frequently discussed subject of »digital distraction«. The collection focuses on the media-influenced ways we organise our breaks and recreational activities.
The artist Verena Herbst illustrates selected lines of text borrowed from newspapers, magazines, the Internet or specialist literature. The brief quotes are polarising, controversial and thought-provoking. Occasionally the language used comes across as trite and unintentionally humorous. Herbst plays on the notion that creativity only arises from doing nothing, through delays and boredom, and also examines whether a return to more contemplation and awareness is possible when we are permanently bombarded by digital temptations. The resulting poetic world of images and texts arises from a desire to submerge oneself in an analogue corner once in a while.
