Surely there can be no other university in Germany which attaches more value to the academic and artistic analysis of media. Established in 1996, the Faculty of Media brings together humanists and economists, computer scientists and artists. Together they raise the profile of media studies. The faculty thus serves as a microcosm of the overall philosophy of the university: the focus is on systems thinking and considering the range of various disciplines – experiment Bauhaus!
The Weimar study programme trains creative and academic media experts. Project studies are at the heart of the courses: at the interface between teaching and research, students develop creative and analytical solutions for open topics. The modular teaching concept enables study to be oriented towards individual interests and current developments in the professional world.
The international character of the Faculty of Media features a wide range of courses and events that are held in English and French, as well as an intensive promotion of the cooperation with universities abroad. Since 1998, the faculty has successfully offered the study program »European Media Culture« in collaboration with the Université Lumière Lyon 2. At the faculty’s Department of Computer Science, prospective students can choose among three master programs completely held in English which include the M. Sc. program »Digital Engineering« that has been offered since 2017 in collaboration with the faculty of Civil Engineering. In this manner, the Faculty of Media promotes the international exchange among students and prepares them optimally for nowadays global job market.
