The 5D-Simulator is the end product of the research on the fiction of holiday and reality itself. Immersive technologies give us the opportunity to travel in artificial realities. These can be analog or digital- active participation is optional. Their creation matches a time when hardening wars are shaking and blurring our exotic phantasies of overseas paradises: no tourism without involving into conflict. People are consequently scared to leave their familiar habitats, but still in search of distraction. Accordingly the tropical theme park is the mirage of a domesticated but adventourous wonderland.
The image of a geodesic dome covering palm trees and beaches: the fake experience of a synthetic world.
The outer shell of the sculpture is taking up floating tanks and armored caravans as connotations. Crash test and motion capture symbols enhance the image of a probable technological prototype.
Inside there is a three channel video installation. The movie deals with displacement between reality and dream and takes the viewer as a user with clear and pixelated pictures to a closer review of second life.
The capsule is surrounding the spectator with its innards. The closed door is isolating the human and framing him into a padded cell.
In this work we convert media promises into an ironic reflection of entertainment misuse and misunderstanding.
