During the winter semester 2017/18, students explored the potentials of paper pulp moulding. In this process, paper fibers dissolved in water, the so-called pulp, are formed into three-dimensional objects. Pulp moulded products are for example known from egg boxes and other packaging applications.
drinkee
The umbrella stand "drinkee" is made of 100% recycled paper.
The moulded pulp absorbs the water from stored umbrellas, softens and begins to deform very slowly under the weight of the umbrellas. Placing an umbrella in the stand thus becomes a playful balancing act.
In the concept, the material pulp is actively exposed to its actual "enemy" water, creating an exciting interaction. Everyone can influence the deformation with their umbrella.
