The Kunstfest Weimar, MeetFrieda Foundation, and the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar invite you to the opening event of the »Kunst schafft Demokratie« (democracy through art) exhibition in the University Library. The exhibition is part of a comprehensive eponymous art campaign that is aiming to motivate people to consider, discuss and act shortly before the Thuringian state elections.
Dr. Ulrike Kuch, Vice President for Social Transformation at the university, and Prof. Dr. Jens-Christian Wagner, Director of the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorial Foundation, will be giving the welcome addresses at the event.
Pieces for the exhibition by Natasa Biza, Ivo von Renner, Kathryn Gohmert, and Brigitte Puschmann closely examine themes of democracy and social participation. In addition to the exhibition in the University Library, 350 billboards in high-traffic areas across Thuringia will show art, including works by Kimiya Justus, Coco Bergholm and Martin Bronsema, instead of ads starting on 20 August. These works will also be shown online and across social media networks. They will also be available to download as posters.
The MeetFrieda Foundation project aims to raise people’s consciousness through art in public spaces. The art pieces are intended to provoke, inspire and raise awareness of the importance of democracy. They are meant to show that diversity, open-mindedness and tolerance are the foundational values on which our society is built.
