Together with other Weimar educational institutions, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be hosting the »Weimarer Wissensdialog. Wissenschaft und Kunst für eine starke Demokratie« (Weimar knowledge dialogue. Science and art for a strong democracy.) on Friday, 23 August 2024. The attending researchers and artists will be presenting their projects and are hoping to engage in discussions with Weimar citizens. The event is being held as part of the »Weltoffenes Thüringen« (Open-Minded Thuringia) initiative.
»Weimar is home to the Bauhaus-Universität; we are a part of the city and of the state of Thuringia. We seek solutions in science and art for the challenges faced by Thuringians and people around the world. We are interested is discussing how we can achieve this and why a strong democracy is needed to carry this out with the people of Weimar«, explains Dr. Ulrike Kuch, Vice President for Social Transformation at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, highlighting the goal of the »Weimarer Wissensdialog«.
In addition to the research projects and artistic statements being presented, the programme includes numerous hands-on activities and subject-specific events. The experiences of those living in Weimar are also being sought for the event: What might the vacant space at »Mostgasse« and »Hinter der Badestube« look like if it was not a parking lot, and what creative design ideas are there for the north of Weimar? How do those with limited mobility experience Herderplatz? What is an acoustic camera? The event also includes activities for children: How are clay and magnetic concrete actually made? How can cities be made more climate-resilient? What secret messages are hidden in museums? Visitors of all ages are welcome to learn more about the answers to these questions.
The University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, the Buchenwald Memorial and Mittelbau-Dora Memorial Foundation, and the Institut für Angewandte Bauforschung Weimar gGmbh are among those involves in the event, which is organised by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
